Library, Reference
and Lists:
Our current playlist is here.
Here is our obsolete list of tunes as played in 2003. It is based on a copy of Peter Budd's tune list from 1991, updated by him at 1 May 2001, and further edited by Donald Gorman. It was last updated by Peter Brown in January 2003. This is a living list and changes will be made from time to time.
There must be a lot of other tunes we play, have played or play as part of a set with tunes already included herein. If you know of one or more then please tell Peter Brown for probable future inclusion.
The tunes and sets of tunes have been categorised as:
- Reels
- Jigs
- Non-Pipe Marches
- Hornpipes
- Polkas
- Waltzes
- Mixed Tempo Sets
- Pipe Tunes
- Scandinavian Tunes
- Various Other Single Tunes
Within each category, eg Reels, the most commonly played sets are listed first; ones towards the end may be played very infrequently. The key of the tune is in square brackets. The numbers at the end are references to written music and the letters to recordings.
The references and discography (at the end of the tune list) are valuable reference material in their own right. An attempt has been made to update the discography so as to replace discontinued vinyl with available CDs.
Just because a book or CD is in the list of references, this is not necessarily a recommendation to go out and buy it as a way into Shetland music. If you do want our recommendations, then you could do worse than to get hold of copies of:
- Da Mirrie Dancers (Book)
- Haand Me Doon Da Fiddle (Book)
- Ringing Strings (Book)
- The Silver Bow (CD)
Publication details are in the references.
