I just punched in Shetland Music and I found you folks. I had a ball the night you were playing at the West End. I hope to be back in Scotland next year listening to all of you playing your tunes. I used to go to your meetings back in the early 80's at Zetland Hall. I was pretty young but I learned a good few tunes from Willie Johnson and Bobby Tulloch then. I still play them from time to time. Robin ===================================================================== From: "Brian" To: Subject: Scotland Date: 13 August 2002 12:29 Hi,Was very impressed with your website and would love to visit one of your Sunday evening events if in Scotland again. However I must point out that on two recent visits to Scotland my wife and myself suffered verbal " sasanach" insults from local people, in restaurants and bars. ( my wife is a Londoner and I was born in Ireland, with some Scottish blood, Kerr clan, ) We vowed never to visit Scotland again because of this.I do hope this ignorant and rude tradition of knocking anyone or anything from south of the border ceases. Im sure it doesnt happen in the more cultured aspects of your society, but it certainly looses you lots of tourists, that I can guarantee. The word spreads fast.I hope things improve so I can again visit the wonders of Scotland. Kind Regards Brian R. I am compiling a 'findings list' in addition to my dissertation and would be most grateful if I could incorporate some of the website's Library list in this. Due acknowledgement to the Society will be given. The scope of my dissertation is limited to fiddle music of the 18th, 19th and beginning of the 20th centuries - and many of the Shetland tunes come into this category. May I say also how informative I have found the Society's website - particularly the section on its history. Distant relatives (Bowmans, Chemists) lived there from 1876 to at least 1906. It was wonderful to see the building and also learn of what has happened to it since.
